Renovation of Plečnik’s house

Plečnik’s house is a complex of two old buildings on Karunova street, where the architect built a cylindrical annex and a winter garden. The house in which Plečnik lived is the most important one and was renovated without significant changes. The other two buildings were transformed into new exhibition and lecture rooms, while the attic is used by the curators and researchers of the master’s legacy. Several experts participated in the renovation process, among them representatives of the client, the municipality of Ljubljana, conservationist Irena Vesel, Restoration Centre of Slovenia, and the Museums and Galleries of Ljubljana. Plečnik’s house has a great historic value as it is one of the few artists’ homes in the world that can boast an original design and well preserved equipment. It houses a permanent exhibition of the architect’s life and work, including original models and plans, a model of Plečnik’s Ljubljana and his personal belongings.
