Ankaran Cemetery

The cemetery transforms the traditional idea of the space of memory into a metaphor for community. On the one hand, it functions as a freely accessible forest park, on the other, as a series of enclosed burial fields, small cemeteries, which are lined up in terraces on the slope above the farewell building. The dramaturgy of the architectural and landscape elements, which line up along the connecting path, directs the visitor’s views alternately along the terrain between the verticals of the forest and perpendicular to the terrain towards the sea, into this incomprehensible dimension that merges with the sky on the horizon.
