Urban centre Ribnica
The architectural project was created through a collaboration between two offices, studio abiro and EFEKT arhitektura. The central building volume, defined by three distinct components—the foyer with the main hall, the stage tower, and the intergenerational center with several medium-sized and smaller spaces—is placed within the cleared interior of the urban block in a way that opens up an entirely new public space.
Along the longitudinal space of the new “promenade,” a double-height foyer opens along its entire length, providing access to all key areas of the centre. Through its openness and permeability, it establishes what is referred to as the neighbourhood’s “living room.” The entrance area is not merely a vestibule for the large and small halls, but is also intended for exhibitions, a café, organized discussions, and other events.
The dynamic building volume is largely wrapped in a wooden lattice veil. The architectural expression of the wooden façade references the craft tradition of Ribnica’s peddler heritage. Inside the building, wooden finishes likewise dominate the key spaces, featuring different patterns tailored to the requirements of spatial acoustics. Through a unified material concept, an interweaving of exterior and interior spaces of the Urban Centre Ribnica is thus established.
