The City Museum renovation and extention

The Auersperg palace, one of the most important Pre-Baroque buildings in Ljubljana, has been converted into a modern, visitor-friendly museum. The reconstruction retained the character of a medieval bourgeoise palace, stripped it of elements added during numerous renovations in the past and restored it back to its original state, but employed minimum interventions that highlight and preserve the existing structure. The archaeological remains under the internal courtyard are presented in situ. The museum has been extended into the courtyard with a walk-on roof that rises in a spiral from the ground to the first floor. Insufficient funding brought the renovation work to a halt before its full completion.
