Cukrarna Palace

The project involves the complete renovation of the Cukrarna Palace constructed in 1828 as part of the entire Cukrarna complex. When it was built, Cukrarna Palace represented the administrative part of the complex, while the industrial part was renovated in 2021 and transformed into the Cukrarna Gallery. During the construction of the Fabiani Bridge, which divided the complex into two parts, the Cukrarna Palace was partially structurally rehabilitated between 2010 and 2012. The goal of the renovation is to create a programme for cultural and artistic education of young people, which will be managed by ‘Mladi zmaji’ and operated under the auspices of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Ljubljana. The building is a profane cultural heritage site and a monument of local significance. Therefore, the planned conservation-restoration work will follow the guidelines of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, Ljubljana Division, during which the original architectural design will be partially reconstructed. At the junction with the Fabiani Bridge, we designed a new addition, which, in terms of material usage, presents a modern contrast to the historical renovation. This addition includes an elevator and service spaces, allowing for universal use of the building.

As part of the Open House Slovenia festival, a construction site tour will be organized. Visitors are kindly asked to wear appropriate footwear (closed shoes suitable for a construction site). The tour is open to minors only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
