A House for Two Biker Souls Sharing a Ride

The new house was built on the site of an old, deteriorating farmhouse that no longer met the needs of contemporary living. The starting point for the design was the question of how to preserve the essential spatial and architectural qualities of the existing building while replacing it, without simply imitating the past. Both the clients and the architects sought to retain what could not easily be replaced – the house’s relationship with its surroundings, its scale and its character. The new house therefore occupies the site of the old one and follows its composition of volumes and the logic of its material use, reinterpreting both through a contemporary architectural language.

The relatively compact volume called for a carefully considered and highly functional floor plan. The house provides comfortable living for two while remaining flexible enough to become a fully functioning home for a larger family in the future. A small additional apartment with three beds has also been incorporated into the house. It can serve as accommodation for visiting friends and relatives, as a first home for a young couple, or as a tourist apartment providing an additional source of income. The new house therefore does not seek to imitate the old one. Instead, it learns from it – continuing its story in a contemporary way.
