Technology park Ptuj
For the needs of the new technology park, the architects renovated the building of the former officers’ pavilion of the abandoned barracks in Ptuj and also added a modern extension volume. The historic building is located in an archaeologically important area near the Ptuj Castle, which is a cultural monument of national importance, so special attention was paid to cooperation with conservators and archaeologists. In accordance with the new function of the building, the architects considered several criteria in the design, such as the use of natural resources, natural lighting, stimulating and spatial dynamism of the working environment, flexible ambience and social activity of the employees. Due to additional space requirements, they designed a new modern glass extension. It is connected to the building and the garden by a linear spatial element that winds along the terrain, embraces the cypress, rises and breaks, and at the same time takes on the role of a retaining wall, column, lintel, bench and fence. The landscape design with newly planted trees is completed by slabs and benches made of polished concrete, which also form the base of the new extension.
