Reconstruction of the dormitory of the Franciscan monastery
The building was added to the Franciscan monastery on Prešeren Square in Ljubljana at the end of the 19th century as a home for the theologians. In the 20th century, the need for accommodation for theological students decreased and the premises remained unused. The management of the monastery wanted to modernise the living conditions and open the dormitory to external students, while at the same time creating a new external access and a new internal staircase so that this wing of the building could function separately and independently from the rest of the monastery. A previously unused part of the attic has been converted into a common space for the residents. The new entrance and staircase also serve visitors to the monastery’s library, which is exceptional in terms of space and content. The Franciscan friars wanted to open it to the general public.
