Hotel Bohinj
Hotel Bohinj is a comprehensive renovation of the former Hotel Kompas, located on a hill above Ribčev Laz, with views towards Lake Bohinj, the Church of St John the Baptist and the surrounding mountains. The building, which had developed through several successive extensions over the decades, was structurally, seismically and energetically upgraded, while its original volume and essential structural elements were preserved. The new appearance is defined by an external framework grid that structurally unifies the existing building, forms the balconies and conceals technical elements within its geometry. A larch-clad façade and a new entrance volume with a double-height lobby establish a contemporary Alpine character.
The interiors of the 69 rooms and shared spaces draw on the local landscape and architectural heritage: wood, motifs of hayracks and the story of the four brave men are reflected in the materials, graphics and details. The wellness area, restaurant, conference spaces, club and garden connect the hotel with its surroundings. The energy concept is complemented by geothermal probes, heat pumps and energy-efficient lighting. The renovation thus brings together the reuse of an existing building, local identity and contemporary environmental standards into a new whole, embedded within the sensitive setting of Triglav National Park.
