Youth Centre Rakovnik

The Society of St Francis de Sales arrived in Ljubljana in 1908. The Salesians have their origin in Turin, Italy and their mission is to educate the young from socially deprived backgrounds and train them for an occupation. The building to the east of the church, known as the Angora factory, was built to house workshops and classrooms for the Salesians. Following the Second World War the Salesians no longer had the use of the building and it was used first as a primary school and then as a textiles factory. After Slovenia gained independence and the building was returned to its original owners, the Salesians set up a youth centre there. The ground floor contains communal social and recreational spaces. The first floor houses classrooms, while the upper two floors are used as living premises. The large areas in front of the building are used for sports.
