Puppet museum at Ljubljana castle

The puppet museum is one of the last segments of a complex renovation of Ljubljana castle, designed by Majda Kregar and Miha Kerin of Ambient architectural bureau. The museum equipment was designed by architects Lenka Kavčič and Ana Struna Bregar.

As a hommage to Slovenian puppet theatre, the exhibition features its milestones and different puppet techniques. It attracts children and adults, as well as puppet connoisseurs.

The complex design of the museum is the result of an interdisciplinary team work. The equipment and the placement of the permanent exhibition were defined by different levels of the rooms, the attic construction and the selection of puppets. In a relatively small space, each puppet was given its own small stage in order to present it within its story. The darkness of the museum is the result of the decision not to recreate a theatre stage, and therefore, its design is based on abstraction.
