House above the town

The house is set on the edge of a ridge and follows contemporary living needs and sustainable architectural principles through a restrained, carefully considered design, replacing an older building while respecting the continuity of the site. The concept is based on three volumes: the central volume combines the kitchen, dining area, and living space into a tall, light-filled core with a central fireplace, while the two lower volumes provide privacy for the sleeping areas; the transitions between spaces are compact yet spatially efficient. The house is oriented to optimize natural daylight and natural ventilation, and its material expression is defined by the exposed iQwood cross-laminated timber structure and a wooden façade executed in the shou sugi ban technique. A mature existing tree on the plot plays a key role in the spatial concept, being visually integrated into all three volumes and strengthening the connection between interior and nature, while the client’s hands-on involvement in the construction added a distinctly personal character to the project.

The house is located in Prlekija.
