The Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

The Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired at the Ljubljana Clinical Centre combines medical, educational, and counseling services. The project’s goal was to create a space that resembles a home-like or learning environment, as it is not intended for medical treatment but for helping users adapt to everyday life. The space is organized into open and closed sections: private programs, such as consultation rooms and offices, are placed within wooden volumes, while open areas allow for various activities. Emphasis is placed on contrasting materials, colours, and tactile surfaces to facilitate orientation. Light wood combined with dark terrazzo and vibrant furniture colours creates a distinctive aesthetic impression. The centre also features tactile floor markings, Braille signage, and a tactile map at the entrance, enabling users to gain a better spatial understanding. The overall design ensures an open, connected, yet intimate space.
