Novi trg and Lontovž

The guided tour of Novi trg and Lontovž sheds light on the development of one of the oldest areas of Ljubljana and on the transformations of this urban space over the centuries. Lontovž, once the provincial house of the Carniolan Estates and today the seat of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, has been rebuilt, expanded and adapted to new needs several times since the 15th century. Particularly significant were the changes following the 1895 earthquake, when extensive reconstructions and extensions were carried out, greatly shaping its present appearance. The tour will offer insight into the gradual transformation of the building and the wider urban fabric of Novi trg, revealing how later interventions helped shape the spatial identity of the area as we know it today.
