House KP
On the edge of a Karst village stands House KP, a contemporary single-family home rooted in a deep understanding of the region’s vernacular architecture. Traditional Karst construction was based on rationality, climatic adaptation, and the use of local materials, reflected in simple, elongated volumes. The project follows this legacy through a clear design of a single-storey structure in the form of a narrow rectangle, a fundamental building block of traditional Karst homesteads.
The house is carefully embedded into a gently sloping terrain, positioned parallel to contour lines and the access road, establishing a clear relationship between the public and private areas of the plot. Private rooms are arranged along the garden side, while service spaces line the public edge facing the road. The central living area combines the kitchen, dining, and lounge spaces, opening to both sides of the plot and allowing fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor environments. A reinterpretation of the traditional stone jerta, here used as a bench, establishes a subtle link to local heritage. The material palette follows Karst traditions, with a rendered façade and a tiled roof preserving the characteristic appearance of the region.
House KP is located near Divača.
