Bažato Gallery
The Bažato Gallery is located in the northernmost pavilion of the Astra complex in Bežigrad neighbourhood in Ljubljana and is an important addition to the local cultural life. The renovation of the building required special attention under the guidance of the Institute for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Slovenia. The Astra complex was built in the 1960s. Its articulated facade indicates the organization of the interior space and structure, which was one of the design principles of one of the most important architects of Slovenian post-war era, Savin Sever (1927–2003). The low-rise commercial building and pavilion were completed in 1970. The main qualities of the building are its modularity, symmetry, continuity of the facade wrap, as well as the play of light on the stone and glass surface.
The Bažato Gallery programme consists of a series of solo, group, overview and thematic exhibitions and includes productions of various artistic approaches, always up-to-date and open to interdisciplinary media.
We will be joined by Hana Brus, Marija Režek Kambič and Tina Potočnik from ZVKDS, who will present the Astra complex and the renovation of the pavilion in accordance with the guidelines for the protection of cultural heritage.
