Renovation of two terraced houses of the housing cooperative “Proges – Mirje” Ljubljana

The project is a renovation of two terraced houses, originally designed by Marko Šlajmer and his partners in 1957. The authors were looking for ways to open the relatively small and defined spaces within the precise grid of the existing houses. They succeeded in their mission by guiding light into the house and visually connecting the different floors via the central staircase. By creating an opening in the ceiling between the library and the living room they created a vertical connection between the two spaces and made room for a large window and a niche for sitting. The original dining room was lowered to ground level, creating a stunning ambience in an otherwise low-rise design.

Twin Houses are located in Ljubljana.
