Renovation of Europe Square and Fabiani’s Trident in Nova Gorica / Gorizia
The renovation of Europe Square and the Trident is a step toward revitalizing the area, which lost its primary function after the division between the two countries. The basic design concept is merging two important spatial lines that meet at the square. The urban axis of both cities runs in the east-west direction, while the green border belt axis runs in the north-south direction. Both axes offer different spatial qualities, and their intersection transforms the square into a multifunctional public space that combines urban and green elements. The traffic renovation of the area has freed public spaces from parked vehicles, while motorized traffic has been slowed down and restricted. The long-term vision for the area’s renovation includes the complete elimination of motorized traffic.
