MTC – Town department store

The department store in Nova Gorica, designed by architect Kamilo Kolarič in 1968, is a landmark building of the modernist town. In spite of its importance, it is not a listed building but simply described on the website called “List of modern Slovenian architecture works between 1945 and 1970”. Above the glazed ground floor, a set of cement frames supports the first floor. Its brown brick tile facade opens on the corners, while the window openings are shaded with slanting cement shadings. The roof over the first floor features characteristic garlands. The renovation was limited to minimal works to restore the original image of the building.
