Karst homestead

The Karst homestead in Šmarje pri Sežani with the year 1853 on the portal is an enclosed complex of four buildings with a courtyard (borjač) and a fountain at the front and a garden at the back. The homestead is a listed building – a monument of local importance, and the comprehensive renovation and reconstruction was based on preserving the design and key features of Karst construction, taking into account today’s construction techniques, modern regulations and the wishes of the new owners for a comfortable and relaxed family stay. The three former outbuildings are today functionally connected parts of the main house with the central living space on the site of the former ‘house’ with a new stone roof modelled on the former one.
