House / Studio Debelak
This home measuring 99 square metres and standing on a narrow plot of only 74 square metres was designed by its owner shortly after he finished his architecture studies. He used the money from the sell of a studio apartment. The width of the house is conditioned by the plot, so long open spaces are placed one above the other. Different spaces are separated by their functions, not by physical divisions. The central living space has the same length and height. The whole southern side features a large window which allows the sun to heat the house in winter, while in summer an old tree provides a natural barrier against excessive heat. The facade is covered in a climbing vine, which allows for chameleonic changes according to the seasons. The spruce windows have not been treated and still show no sign of decay.
