House in Štanjel
The house, which is more than 200 years old, is part of a row of houses in the village core of Štanjel, which is protected as an example of immovable cultural heritage. The building itself has a very small square footage, and although it consists of three floors, each one measures just over 18 m2. This surface features all the spaces without which we cannot imagine life today. The design has preserved the architecture of the Karst region, and the small size of the building has dictated a vertical connection of the floors that takes up as little space as possible. For this purpose, the designers opted for the so-called duck stairs, which form the central element of the vertical dwelling.
