Gorenjska banka Škofja Loka
In close proximity to the medieval core of Škofja Loka stands a multifunctional complex from 1976, designed in Yugoslav modernism. It was designed by Projekt Atelier, part of the Institute of Urban Planning. The building, with its distinctive concrete structure, was originally intended as a bank branch but now also includes a hotel, shops, and office spaces. After years of alterations, the interior of the bank branch lost its spatial clarity. The key goal of the renovation was to rediscover the building’s original architectural expression. By removing inappropriate layers, we revealed the concrete structure and preserved spatial fluidity. Instead of the traditional bank layout, we introduced freestanding capsules for consultation areas, made of solid oak, ensuring privacy and comfort. The result of the renovation is a modern interior that preserves the building’s architectural heritage while allowing for adaptable long-term use. The project connects the historical context with modern spatial practices, creating a platform for the future.
