Town hall Nova Gorica

The townhall in Nova Gorica is a free-standing building which defines the northern side of the main town square. It is a part of the urban development project designed by the architect Edvard Ravnikar after the Second World War. Built during the social realism period, the building is a clear example of the tradition of Plečnik’s school and shows the architect Vinko Glanz’s attachment to the Mediterranean with its colonnade, an atrium with a pergola and the use of stone. Artistic details, such as sculptures at the entrance, frescoes in the Green Hall and mosaics in the lobby, are all an integral part of the building.
