Renovated Homestead in Vipava Valley
The renovation of the entirely stone-built barn in the middle of the lesser-known upper Vipava village of Podraga took place in the spirit of preservation and minimal design and architectural interventions. The new content thus retained the spirit of heritage, while at the same time gaining on the comfort dictated by the modern way of life. Partially adapted external building elements are emphasized by white frames, while inside the white colour also contrasts the newly acquired components from the already existing ones – in stone. The placement of antique, carefully restored pieces of furniture emphasizes the idea of combining the old with the new. This is especially visible in the carefully planned wooden stairs that nicely connect the entrance ground floor of the more “public” area (where the kitchen and the huge restored wooden table are located, especially suitable for gatherings) with a more intimate, open gallery with a sleeping area upstairs. There is a semi-open, yet discreetly tucked away bathroom behind the partition wall that extends right up to the roof structure. On the ground floor there is also the owner’s silversmith studio, with separate access directly from the courtyard of the homestead.
