Hotel April1550

The project is a renovation of one of the oldest houses in Ljubljana, originally built in 1550. The building was outdated therefore an extensive renovation was necessary. The authors were thus able to highlight the building’s principal elements (stone, wood, brick) and upgrade them with new interventions. The central idea of the renovation was to expose the historical layers and show the rich history of the building.

The design and lightness of selected furnishing materials such as finely ground pine and thin metal elements represent a contrast to the weight of rough brick walls, irregular arches, deep random niches and openings, and robust oak ceilings. Natural tones of flax and recycled canvases, as well as selected pieces of furniture are complemented by the products of Slovenian designers and artists. The interior design is intertwined with the architecture of the building and forms an indivisible whole with the imaginative and subtly designed interior furnishings.

The project is located in Ljubljana.
