Exhibition: Baroque in Slovenia – Architecture and Applied Arts

The exhibition at the National Museum sheds light on the diverse and rich cultural life of the 17th and 18th centuries. Through carefully selected architectural monuments and works of applied art, it presents the intertwining of secular and ecclesiastical authority with everyday life during the Baroque period. Visitors can explore the influence of new religious orders such as the Jesuits and Capuchins, and view newly constructed buildings as well as renovations of important ecclesiastical structures, including cathedrals, city churches, and pilgrimage churches. In addition to ecclesiastical commissions, the exhibition reveals the opulence of urban palaces and rural manors and their interior design, offering insights into the living spaces and centres of power of the time.

With objects on display from both domestic and international collections, the exhibition tells the story of the flourishing of architecture and art, as well as the social changes and cultural currents that shaped the Slovenian territory during the Baroque era.
