Picture (a) City – guided tour of the exhibition

Like many other cities, Ljubljana is becoming the stage for a dual performance. On one hand, we witness the city being presented as a spectacle, while on the other, it serves as a site of imagination. The exhibition Picture (A) City juxtaposes these two aspects through historical works from public and private collections, as well as contemporary artistic and theoretical production. It critically examines changes in the use of public space in Ljubljana in recent years, shedding historical light on key issues associated with these transformations. Exhibiting artists problematize the devastation of public spaces, the untapped potential of abandoned locations, and the housing crisis as key challenges of contemporary urban life. The exhibition sheds light on issues related to the (mis)use of public space and the processes of gentrification.
