Repurpose, Reinterpret: Final Guided Tour of the Exhibition with Co-author Dora Janušič

On the occasion of the closing of the exhibition Repurpose, Reinterpret: Tracing Spolia and Reuse in Plečnik’s Ljubljana, you are warmly invited to Plečnik House for a final guided tour in the company of the exhibition’s co-author, Dora Janušič.

The exhibition reveals a lesser-known layer of Plečnik’s architectural practice – his thoughtful and creative reuse of materials, historical elements (so-called spolia), and everyday objects. Plečnik understood old building components as “layers of history” and incorporated them into new architectural compositions, thereby establishing a dialogue between past and present while adding symbolic and cultural meaning to space.

The exhibition by Fanny Bruckbauer, David Eibensteiner, Dora Janušič and Larissa Silva Lopes was developed in the framework of the publication of the same title, New Purpose, New Interpretation: Tracing Spolia and Reuse in Plečnik’s Ljubljana. The project emerged from a two-week research, design and making workshop organised as part of the AA Nanotourism Visiting School, a programme of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, under the mentorship of Aljoša Dekleva, Amin Taha and Vid Žnidaršič.
