Kindergarten by the Tree: XL programme in XS volume

The new kindergarten, which replaced the completely dilapidated prefabricated Marles one, is the most rationally designed kindergarten in Slovenia. With an architectural “sudoku”, in which the multi-purpose use of surfaces and the natural lighting and ventilation of the rooms were key, there are 14 playrooms in a net area of just 2,058 m2. The architectural and landscape design was conditioned and co-shaped by a huge lime tree. Above the single rectangular volume of the ground floor are three offset overhanging cubes on the first floor, between which are open terraces – extensions of the playrooms.
