Fabiani’s Ljubljana
Maks Fabiani (1865–1962) was an urban planner, architect, professor of history and composition, inventor, and philosopher. He worked across three cultural spheres, mastering international, national, and local contexts. The metropolis of Vienna provided him with a successful career — he was the first Doctor of Urban Planning, the leading architect of the monarchy after Otto Wagner, and a mentor and role model to Jože Plečnik.
Ljubljana was his city, which he shaped through his urban plans and architectural works. His architecture was stylistically adapted to the location, function, and client, characterized by simplicity, clarity, and a pursuit of a greater whole.
