Cultural centre “Medrug Polanci”
The cultural centre forms the northern edge of the village centre. Urban and architectural design are related to the morphology of the place, the volume relations between the buildings and the empty spaces/courtyards between them. Two longitudinal volumes placed on a compact ground floor base are connected by an enclosed passage. Courtyards formed between them, the lower one by the stream and the upper one raised above the local road, are interconnected by external stairs and stands. The transition between levels creates a kind of open-air theater. From the upper courtyard, views open across the valley towards the hills and to the park. Despite the diverse and extensive program (multipurpose hall, café, gallery, local library, small hall, club rooms, two municipal apartments) the volumes maintain the scale of the buildings in the village center. A wooden façade membrane relates to the local design of typical wooden patterns.
