Open Call for 2026 Plečnik Awards

The Jože Plečnik Foundation is announcing the Open Call for 2026 Plečnik Awards – the central national recognition for outstanding achievements in architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, and interior design, completed within the territory of the Republic of Slovenia, as well as for works completed in Slovenian cross-border regions that enrich Slovenia’s spatial culture.

Eligible works include those completed within the last three years in the field of landscape architecture and those completed within the last five years in other areas.

The Plečnik Awards comprise of Plečnik Award and Plečnik Medals. The Plečnik Award is granted to completed work that best embodies the mission of the Plečnik Awards.

The Plečnik Medals are awarded in the following categories:

  • Plečnik Medal for large-scale architectural realization
  • Plečnik Medal for medium-scale architectural realization
  • Plečnik Medal for small-scale architectural realization
  • Plečnik Medal for public space
  • Plečnik Medal for professional publications
  • Plečnik Medal for the enrichment of spatial culture

From the three categories – large-scale architectural realization, small-scale architectural realization, and public space – the jury awards two Plečnik Medals and one Plečnik Award. In the category to which the work receiving the Plečnik Award belongs, no Plečnik Medals are awarded.

The Foundation also announces a separate student recognition in the form of a scholarship. The Plečnik Foundation Scholarship encourages graduates in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, or other spatially related studies at the beginning of their professional careers and is awarded as recognition of the recipient’s academic and extracurricular achievements.

Nominations for the award can be submitted by anyone, including the authors of the proposed works. Candidates for the Plečnik Foundation Scholarship are proposed by a mentor or a higher education institution.

The Plečnik Award and Plečnik Medals for 2026 will be selected by a jury appointed by the Foundation’s Assembly:

  • Andreas Ruby, architectural critic and publisher
  • Uroš Rustja, architect
  • Mojca Gregorski, architect
  • Blaž Budja, architect
  • Rok Žnidaršič, architect

Proposals can be submitted until Monday, 26 January 2026 via the form on the Plečnik Foundation’s website, where all guidelines for preparing submissions are also provided.
