City Museum of Ljubljana
Since it was founded in 1935, the City Museum of Ljubljana has been housed in the Auersperg Palace. The museum conserves tens of thousands of museum treasures, including the oldest wooden wheel with axle in the world. Among the most notable projects in the last few years were the exhibitions KOLO 5200, WATER, Emona: City in Empire, The New Era is Coming! Industry – Labour – Capital and Medieval Ljubljana.
With the merger of the City Museum of Ljubljana and the City Gallery of Ljubljana in 2009 into the largest cultural public institution, the Museum and Galleries of the City of Ljubljana, the museum became part of the living and current museum-gallery offer. At the institution they cultivate genuine contact with local and foreign visitors, popularise their collections through exhibitions and events, and encourage dialogue between heritage, art and the challenges of contemporary society.
