MINERS’ HOMES AND PRHAVZI

This architectural walk will begin on Sunday, September 19, at 10 am at the machine room of the Inzaghi mine shaft on 3, Vodnik Street in Idrija. While visiting selected architectural monuments, we will learn how the five-hundred-year presence of the mercury mine affected the urban image of the former mining centre and what traces it left in the built space of Idrija.

We will focus on the two architectural types that most marked the lives of generations of miners: private dwellings and apartment blocks, the so-called prhavzi. We will also visit typical monuments such as the Gewerkenegg castle, Šelštev – the entrance building to Anthony’s mine shaft and the oldest theatre building in Slovenia.

The walk will end at 12 pm in an authentic working environment – under the factory chimney among the blocks on Rudarska Street.

The architectural walk will be led by Matevž Šlabnik, ID20
