Maribor Art Gallery

The Maribor Art Gallery (UGM) is one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary art in Slovenia and a space where art, creativity, and critical reflection on contemporary society meet. Through its collection of more than 10,000 works by Slovenian artists from the late nineteenth century to the present day, it serves as an important center for the preservation, research, and presentation of Slovenia’s visual art heritage.

Through exhibitions, educational programmes, publications, and other events, UGM brings modern and contemporary visual art closer to the public and encourages an understanding of its role in everyday life. Alongside works by some of the most important Slovenian artists, the gallery also offers insight into current developments on the international art scene and presents the work of established and emerging contemporary artists.

As a museum institution of cultural, educational, and social significance, UGM collects, preserves, researches, documents, interprets, and safeguards movable cultural heritage in the field of visual art. Painting, sculpture, and printmaking are complemented by photography, video art, multimedia installations, and interactive projects that reflect the diversity of contemporary artistic practices.

Through its exhibition and educational programme, UGM connects different generations, communities, and educational institutions, creating an open space for dialogue, learning, and cultural exchange. With its activities, the gallery plays an important role in shaping the Slovenian and international art landscape and enables visitors to explore current themes and questions of contemporary society through art.
