We have followed the evolution of the Croatian brand Studijo through several significant milestones in recent years: from in-house designer wallpaper production to achieving international recognition and executing projects in over 40 countries, alongside a growing presence in architectural and design initiatives. A new chapter in the brand’s development focuses on the hospitality sector, presenting a distinct design challenge; in hotels, restaurants, and bars, the wall should not always dominate the space\u2014sometimes it must be consciously understated to allow the overall interior design to speak more loudly. With its new BasicArt and Hospitality collections, Studijo precisely addresses the requirements of such projects by combining design and the quality of in-house production with functionality, competitive pricing, and suitability for large-scale applications.<\/p>\n

From Designer Wall to Project Solution
\n<\/strong>Studijo built its identity on the concept that a wall is not merely a background for an interior. Each wallpaper design began as an original work of art, and the option for customization allowed architects and designers to tailor it to a specific space. The brand’s growth raised a new question: must every wall dominate the design to give the interior character, or is it equally important to know where to soften the look so that the architecture, furniture, lighting, and other spatial elements can shine? This gave rise to a new design challenge\u2014developing a wall covering that would not compete with the space but rather unite it into a harmonious whole, all while maintaining the product’s quality and design standards, as well as a price point and production capacity suitable for large-scale hospitality and commercial projects. The new BasicArt collection was born from precisely these needs. It expands Studijo\u2019s portfolio toward simpler, more adaptable solutions and serves as a prelude to Hospitality, a new collection developed specifically for hotels, the hospitality sector, and other public spaces. For Josipa Maras, this step forward represents not a departure from Studijo\u2019s artistic identity, but rather the result of experience gained through real-world projects.<\/p>\n

“For years, we have been building our brand identity through designer wallpapers that often become a key interior feature. However, through our collaborations with architects and work on major projects, we increasingly recognized the need for a ‘quieter’ visual expression. There are spaces where the wall shouldn’t dominate, but rather tie all interior elements together into a harmonious whole. That was the idea that intrigued me: how to translate our design and manufacturing expertise into a product that is visually calmer and functional, yet complements the other strong design statements the interior aims to convey. It was precisely this need that gave rise to our new Basic collections,” explains Josipa Maras.<\/p>\n

Design that understands hotel design
\n<\/strong>What works in a private home or a small boutique project may not be the right solution for a hotel with hundreds of rooms. Large surface areas, heavy usage, the repetition of elements, deadlines, volumes, and pre-set budgets all shape the approach to materials and design from the very earliest stages of a project. That is precisely why Studijo developed the Hospitality collection\u2014a line of simpler, neutral, and unobtrusive designs intended for spaces where wall coverings form hea im a broader architectural whole. hea im goes beyond merely simplifying existing motifs; it represents a different approach to product development\u2014balancing suitability for large surfaces and reliable production with cost-competitiveness, ensuring the product fits within the fixed budgets of major hotel projects. The first samples from the new collection will be available starting in September 2026.<\/p>\n

“When designing a hotel, you aren’t just creating a beautiful setting; you are shaping the entire guest experience. From the rooms and corridors to the restaurant or lobby, every space serves a different function; that is why we wanted to develop a collection that gives architects the freedom to use wall coverings as part of the whole, without them necessarily having to be the main feature. To me, simplicity has never meant a lack of thought. Quite the opposite\u2014sometimes it is far more difficult to create something neutral enough to stand the test of time, yet well-designed enough to lend character to a space,” emphasizes Maras.<\/p>\n

The international market as a realm of new opportunities
\n<\/strong>This new focus on the hospitality segment comes at a time when Studijo has already established its own production facilities\u2014enabling the brand to integrate design and manufacturing processes\u2014and has seen its international network grow steadily in recent years. Today, Studijo has contractual partners in 30 countries, and its products have been available in over 40 countries worldwide. The brand\u2019s international expansion continues with showcases around the globe: in late October, Studijo will exhibit at the Orgatec trade fair in Cologne for the second time, and in January 2027, it will present at Maison&Objet in Paris for the fourth consecutive time. Yet, behind these new markets and trade fairs lies a simple ambition: to develop products that meet the genuine needs of the spaces and the people who shape them. Slovenia also plays a vital role in this development. For Studijo, it is not merely a neighboring export market but a market where it has established a strong presence among architects, designers, and end-users through long-term partnerships with local collaborators. Such markets are also crucial for the next phase of development\u2014one in which Studijo is increasingly turning its attention to the professional projects segment.<\/p>\n

“For us, Slovenia has been a very natural and important market from the very beginning. We are close neighbors, we have a keen understanding of the local context, and we collaborate excellently with our partners; furthermore, we are increasingly engaging with the architects and designers who incorporate Studijo into their projects. It is precisely through these relationships that we identify opportunities for growth. For me, Hospitality is not merely a new collection but the start of a new direction for Studijo. We aim to partner with architects and designers whether they are seeking a bold, signature statement piece or a high-quality, cost-effective solution for a project requiring hundreds of square meters of a more understated design. Being able to meet both of these needs represents a significant step forward in the evolution of our international journey,” concluded Josipa Maras.<\/p>\n
