In the last period we are following with great interest the work of the Croatian artist and entrepreneur Josipa Maras, the founder of the Studio brand, who created one of the most recognizable regional designer wallpaper brands from her original illustrations and paintings. Although today their wallpapers adorn projects in more than 40 markets around the world, in recent months they have brought three important milestones: a collection inspired by the rich history of Dubrovnik, the first artistic collaboration and a presentation at the Salone del Mobile fair in Milan, the largest and most influential event in the field of interior design in the world. Each of these stories reveals a different aspect of the Studio brand, and together they explain why the Croatian brand constantly translates art into new spatial stories and in recent years has more and more decisively entered the forefront of the international design scene.<\/p>\n

Ode to Dubrovnik: A meeting of architecture, history and art<\/strong>
\nWhen designers look for inspiration in Dubrovnik, they most often stop at its most recognizable features – the mighty walls, stone streets and famous views of the city. Josipa Maras took a different route. The Ode to Dubrovnik collection was created through months of research into archives, historical documents, manuscripts, old maps and stories of people who over the centuries co-created the identity of the place. Instead of treating Dubrovnik as a tourist icon, she understood it as a complex cultural whole, in which architecture, science, trade, diplomacy and everyday life are intertwined.<\/p>\n

The result is wallpapers that act as visual narratives. They intertwine historical figures, architectural motifs and authentic documents, combined into compositions that at first glance appear modern and harmonious, but upon closer inspection reveal a wealth of symbols, details and hidden meanings. This is precisely where their uniqueness is hidden: the rock is not only a decorative surface, but the bearer of the story, which adds a new dimension to the space. Such an approach is especially attractive for architects and interior designers, who are looking for more than just an aesthetic effect in modern interiors.<\/p>\n

\u00bbWhen they entrusted me with this project, I knew that it would change me – not only as an artist, but also as a person. Dubrovnik is not a place that can be touched superficially. It requires time, respect and understanding. My desire was not to show its scenic beauty, but to capture the layers of stories that shaped it, and to transfer them into the space in a modern way,” emphasizes Josipa Maras.<\/p>\n

When an illustration becomes wallpaper, a rock gets its own story
\n<\/strong>Another important milestone for the Studio this year is the first artistic collaboration in the brand’s history with illustrator Mateo Kova\u010d. After years of developing a recognizable author’s expression, Josipa Maras decided to open the door to other creators and prove that collaboration can further enrich the brand. The new collection was created as a translation of illustration into the medium of the interior – a process in which the work of art transcends the frame of the gallery or paper and becomes part of the everyday living environment.<\/p>\n

With this, the Studio took the first step towards a long-term project of connecting the artist’s various disciplines, whose works will be given a new spatial dimension through the wallpaper. At the same time, it is not about one-off collaborations, but about the creation of a platform that allows artists to transfer their creations to space and bring them closer to a wider audience. The idea is based on the belief that easy walls carry more than just an aesthetic function – they can become carriers of artistic stories, identity and personal expression.<\/p>\n

For Josipa Maras, such a development is a completely natural step. From the very beginning, the studio was created at the intersection of art and design, so the opening of the brand with a new creative voice represents a logical continuation of its vision and development. “In the past years, I have received many proposals for cooperation, but none of them seemed really meaningful, until I felt the genuine creative value and matching vision, which Matea Kova\u010d has been building with her work for many years. I believe that art should not remain trapped only in the frames of gallery spaces. I wish that the Studio would become a meeting point for creative people and a platform where different author’s expressions, ideas and views on creation meet. I understand this cooperation as the first step in a direction that fills me with great enthusiasm. Our region is full of extremely talented artists, that’s why I believe that by connecting we can easily create projects that will represent the power and originality of our creativity far beyond European borders,” emphasizes Josipa Maras.<\/p>\n

Milan as a milestone: entering the world’s design elite<\/strong>
\nWhile new collections were being created, the Studio steadily strengthened its international presence with appearances at fairs, exhibitions and professional events in Europe and beyond. In the last five years, the brand has presented itself in Paris, London, Germany, Greece and Saudi Arabia, and through thoughtful networking has built relationships with architects, interior designers and business partners from all over the world. This year’s summer brought one of the most important milestones so far. The studio received an invitation to the Salone del Mobile in Milan, an event that is considered a medium-sized world meeting place for architecture, design and the furniture industry. It is a platform where the most influential names of the industry meet and where guidelines are often outlined that will mark the future of design. The scale of the event is best illustrated by the numbers: more than 316,000 visitors from 167 countries, almost 1,900 exhibitors and several hundred leading architects, designers, manufacturers and investors from all over the world in one place. In such an environment, the presentation of one’s own work goes beyond the scope of business opportunities. Mention the recognition that the brand has become part of the international design space and an interlocutor in the global dialogue about modern design, aesthetics and the future of living.<\/p>\n

In Milan, the Studio presented a selection of its most recognizable wallpapers, including designs awarded with the prestigious Archiproducts Design Awards in the German Design Award. The presentation at one of the most influential design events in the world further strengthened the position of the brand, which in a few years developed from an independent Croatian creative project into an internationally recognized name in the field of designer wall coverings.
\n“Performing at the fair in Milan has been my goal and at the same time a silent desire for almost seven years. To this day, I still remember my first visit, when I thought while walking around the pavilions, how incredible it would be to present my work here one day. Today, when visitors from different parts of the world stop by our stands and discover the stories told by our collections, I feel especially great gratitude. Such moments are not the result of one big breakthrough, but of harmless small steps, perseverance, patience and people who believed in the same vision over the years. That’s why this experience is even more important for me,” concludes Josipa Maras.<\/p>\n
