Exhibition: Villas as architectural heritage of the tourist boom of Portorož and its surroundings at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries

The exhibition reveals the villas as upper class dwellings and their boom period, which coincided with the rise of Portorož as a cosmopolitan resort at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At this time, villas began to dominate the Portorož Riviera, adding a touch of exclusivity to the northern Adriatic spa resort with their architectural appearance and carefully landscaped surroundings. Luigia, Elfride, Maria, Daria and Amalia are some of the names of the 45 selected villas, which are presented in the exhibition through architectural plans, paintings and photographs of the sites, with detailed information on the investors, architects and years of construction.

The publication and the exhibition of the same name are the result of extensive professional work on archival material kept in the Piran Unit of the Koper Regional Archives.
